What powers a city? How does it manifest in a city, to whom, when and where, how and why? How does power gather and get redistributed and calibrated through formal and informal structures? How does a city care for its residents, and what possibilities exists for residents reclaiming public space and the access to resources?
Previously staged as a durational performance at the decommissioned Pasir Panjang Power Station in Singapore, the installation acquires new meaning sited in Hamid Market, Karachi, Pakistan. In developing the research for this project, we are concerned about the social, cultural, historical and personal realities which are often not fully revealed in existing policies and processes. Through approaches in visual, aural, semantic and aesthetic expressions, the installation reflects how people might perceive and experience power in their realities and the potentialities of collective care, imagination and play in forming connectedness across difference.
